People in Legal Pty Ltd (ABN 22 678 276 536) ("People in Legal", "we", "us") runs peopleinlegal.com, the People in Legal podcast and video series, the Leaders Roundtable and our newsletter. This policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal information. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles and, where they apply to you, the UK GDPR and EU GDPR.
1. What we collect
- Newsletter subscribers: your email address and the date you subscribed.
- Enquiries: if you use our Partner With Us or contact forms, your name, work email, company, target market, the services you are interested in and your message.
- Guests and contributors: your name, title, organisation, biography, photo, and the audio and video of your interview, plus the contact and scheduling details we use to arrange it.
- Sponsors and clients: business contact details, contract and invoicing information.
- Website usage: device, browser, pages visited, referring site and approximate location, collected through cookies and similar technologies.
We do not ask for sensitive information, such as health or political information, and ask that you do not send it to us.
2. How we use it
- To send the newsletter and episode updates you asked for.
- To reply to enquiries and to prepare and deliver sponsorship, roundtable and content services.
- To plan, record, edit, publish and promote episodes, including clips and posts on LinkedIn, YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
- To invoice, keep records and meet our legal obligations.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it.
We may email you about our own related services. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
3. Guests: episodes are public
If you appear on People in Legal, your interview and the details we publish with it are made public and may be shared, clipped and republished across our channels. We record what we publish with your consent at the time of recording. Ask us if you want a factual correction made to an episode page.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with:
- service providers that run our operations, including website hosting (Wix), podcast hosting and distribution (Spotify for Creators, Apple Podcasts, YouTube), our email and newsletter platform, our CRM (HubSpot) and our accounting software (Xero);
- our hosts, producers and contractors, who need it to make episodes and are bound by confidentiality obligations;
- a sponsor, but only your business contact details and only when you have asked to be introduced or registered for a sponsored event that says so; and
- regulators, courts or law enforcement where the law requires it.
5. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia, mainly in the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union. We choose providers with appropriate security and contractual protections.
6. Cookies
Our website uses cookies for core site functions, security and analytics. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some site features may not work if you do.
7. Security and retention
We protect personal information with access controls, secure providers and limited internal access. We keep it only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires, then delete or de-identify it. Published episodes stay online as part of our archive.
8. Your rights
You can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you. If the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you, you can also ask us to delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive it in a portable form. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first.
9. Complaints
Contact us first and we will try to resolve your complaint within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or, in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
